Mr Bongo

Two of Brighton’s best loved diggers make the trip uptown for a Mr Bongo Sunday session at Ghost Notes. Founder Dave Buttle and his trusted sidekick, super selector Gareth Stephens bring with them a typically broad selection to help the people of Peckham see the weekend out in style.

Mr Bongo began life as a record shop back in the days when Soho was still crooked and Rare Groove was the flavour of the month. Dave and the gang were the first shop in the UK to import records from then fledgling US labels like Rawkus, Nervous and Def Jam, and around the same kind of time became the bearers for hard-to-find Latin classics, kick starting something of a renaissance in the early 2000’s.

Since then Mr Bongo has become a trusted imprint in its own right, releasing classics by Terry Callier, Jorge Ben, Seu Jorge and Marcos Valle, as well as untold essential compilations that span the globe and reach back through the decades. All these and will no doubt feature heavily during this heavyweight Sunday session. Come and banish the January blues with some musical sunshine, and join us at Wildflower for brunch from 10am.
